  I played with the Q back when I was in Vegas for the CES, and it was indeed pretty sweet. That said, these were the things that bothered me, and they are PURELY personal preference issues.
  
  1) No touch screen. I just don't lilke the blackberry-style wheel navigation in windows.
  
  2) Those damn buttons are too small for me, just liek on the treo. Then again, my fingers aren't exactly dainty.
  
  3) Small screen real estate compared to a couple other phones.
  
  That's about it, but between those and me getting sick of waiting for it to come out, I now rock a Cingular 8125. Does Verizon have a version of it? I know Sprint does. I very seriously considered holding out for the Q and switching to Verizon for it, but I have to say, I love my 8125.

  I'll echo Kurt's comments (especially the lack of a touch screen) but would also like to point out that it doesn't have integrated WiFi. While that might not seem like a big deal -- I personally would expect that feature to be integrated when I lay down 200 for a phone that I'm likely to break w/in the next year.

  1. No touch screen doesn't really bother me. I had the Nokia 770 and the stylus bugged me, though I did like the touch screen, I managed to function without it. And plus, any of the phones I've had before, didn't have touch screen, so I doubt I'll be trying to touch it.
  
  2. Hehehe. Yeah, I have tiny fingers, so that might not be a problem for me.
  
  3. Don't know if this will be a problem, though I'm sure that anything is better than the one I have now.
  
  But I don't know if they have a version of your phone for Verizon. My guest is no. Verizon isn't exactly known for their amazing phones.

  David: That's a really good point, and one of my biggest concerns. If it had wifi, I probably wouldn't think twice.

  hmm... looks like cingular, t-mobile and sprint here in the states for the phone I was talkign about. Bummer. Wanna switch carriers?
  
  I totally forgot about wi-fi. I didn't think I would use it much, but in actuality it has come in handy a number of times.
  
  The screen size to me is huge if you plan on watching any video content. The ability for me to watch in widescreen without being confined to a square (and thus cutting down the image size) is nice.

  As long as I live in Upstate NY, I'll be with Verizon. Just my personal preference.
  
  Really, this is a question of: Do I go for the SmartPhone or a shitty temp phone to hold me over for 2 years? Being that I've never had a SmartPhone, and don't plan on bumping my plan to $80 a month just so I can get unlimited data transfer, is it worth it? I would have liked to have wifi, but I doubt I'd even use it, and plus I'll be getting the MacBook soon and figure that will be with me 24/7. So do I really need all those SmartPhone features (at this point and time)? I'm really looking at the phone quality and ability to txt msg (some pictures too). Maybe once I have the other stuff, I'll start using it, but who knows. I'm pretty lazy, so I doubt I'll even bother.

  I say no. A large number of the basic phones can do the calendar functions and synch with outlook or ical, it's just that most don't bother to learn how. I had a Sony ericsson phone before and it was awesome with the Symbian OS. Synched to my iCal like a champ.
  
  if you aren't goign for the data plan, a smartphone with Wifi is key. Otherwise, you will have no access to any kind of data capability without paying through the nose. I got sick of the T9 method of sending texts, but if you can live with that, in your situation, it sounds like the Q might not be worth it.
