I did a Google search today and was greeted by a strange screen. It seems I was given the new results page that Google has been testing out on a few users. Did I ask for this? No. Do I know how to get back to the normal screen? No. So getting past the initial "What the hell?" moment, I looked a little closer at the interface.

While Google has always been known for their minimalism, this new interface is even more stripped. This was kind of annoying for me because of the reason for my search. I was searching for a word in Google, as I often do, to ensure that I was spelling it correctly and that I was using it with the correct meaning. Well, in the new interface there is no bar at the top that lets you click the word to go to its answers.com definition page. That's kind of annoying. I guess I will just have to use the special "define:" query. But I was so used to doing it the other way.

Anyway, I am not a big fan of Google's random interface testing on unsuspecting victims. I can only imagine what a non Internet savvy user would think when the only familiar thing they know on the Internet (Google Search), suddenly looks different. Actually I can, and from my experiences, it would sound something like this: "Something is wrong with the Internet." Because we all know that the Internet is neither a big truck, nor a series of tubes, it is in fact, Google. Or something like that.

Has anyone else been greeted with this new results page? Any thoughts?

Yea Ted Stevens, Daily Show, blah blah. But the last line is the kicker:

One congressional aide said the show had explained the controversial Net neutrality issue "better than any corporate lobbyist or policymaker I know."

So, a comedy show on basic cable can explain the issue better than the Senate Commerce Committee; and a Congressional aide knows and admits this; but we still give these clowns power. That makes sense.

Oh and if you end up being served the new interface and you want to revert back to normal, just delete your Google cookies.

I use Google for spelling checks fairly frequently, though doing a Google search for define:word (with word being whatever word you are searching for) is a bit more definitive.

'Tell us what you think'

Well that is easy. I do not like the 'new' lay out.
I looked around to see if I could find the 'classic' layout & there was nothing.
This new layout takes away from the clean lines I like.
It looks cluttered & the thougth that sprang to mind was ------omg yahoo has taken over !

Wtf, i got the same, as in the search options are higher up and more to the left... really annoying, i got it off once by deleting the cookies, but now it keeps on coming back!!! What can i do, i dont want it!
