And to anyone else who missed the memo, cute character illustrations are totally the new lightbulbs, ethnically-diverse hands shaking, holding plants, or holding globes, or hot customer support girls wearing headsets. Get with the program.

Anyways, I can just imagine the photo-sesh for the first site.

In terms of the second, besides the obvious visual violation scenario we have going on with the terrible background on the blog, I totally agree with the character thing. In relation to that, I'm also generally pretty sour on the whole "Links Guy," "CSS Guy," "Template Guy" monikers that self-professed Wordpress/Blog/CMS experts are putting on their blogs. These are, as you mentioned, usually coupled with cute character illustrations that aim to position themselves as much cooler than their real life counterparts actually are.
