Wow, busy week. After officially launching billQ, we have been hard at work adding some needed features and tightening up the entire app.
Overall the response has been great. So far we have over 400 new users. Not bad for a fairly low-profile launch. One of the best things we've seen is that people are recommending this service to others outside the typical web community. This is satisfying as we really tried to make this useful for a wider audience.
As far as the update, here is a list of the changes (make sure to clear your cache and refresh if you aren't seeing these updates):
- Support for International CurrenciesThis was by far the most requested feature. We knew during the launch that this would be the case, but we decided to launch sooner and add this feature later since around 80% of our market at that time was in the U.S. But now you can choose a number of different currency formats.
- Support for multiple Date Formats
Again, not everyone uses the same date format, so we gave you some more options. - Better Paid Bill ArchivingThe paid bills page is now sorted by month. This will make it easier when you start to accumulate a large amount of paid bills.
- Improved RemindersYou can now choose your timezone and select a preferred time to receive billQ reminders. Another way to make billQ work around your schedule.
- Redesigned Settings PageWe revamped the settings page to make it easier to see what settings are available at a glance. This was also necessary as we added a few more tools to the page.
- Export your bill schedule to iCalendarYou can keep track of your bill schedule in any calendar app that supports iCalendar (iCal, Sunbird, Google Calendar, etc.). Just go to the new tools page and you'll find your unique calendar URL to subscribe to.
- Add Bills with a FaveletWe developed a favelet that you can use to add bills with one click. You don't need to be logged in and you don't need to have the billQ page open, just click the button and enter your bills in a pop-up window.
- Subscribe with RSSYou can now subscribe to an RSS feed of your billQ page so you can see your list of bills and when they are due in your RSS reader.
- Many bug fixes and performance tweaksWe did a lot of behind the scenes work the make billQ run better and faster. A few bugs were squashed and things should run even smoother than before.
There were a few more things that we had planned but didn't feel were quite up to par yet. We really needed to push this update as soon as we could, so a few things were cut. But once we get the other features to a level that we feel comfortable with, we will push them live. Stay tuned to this blog for a heads up.
Finally, we want to thank everyone who has signed up, sent feedback, or helped spread the word. We really appreciate it. We are going to continue to work hard to make billQ as great as we can and work towards our ultimate goal of creating an easy to use, web-based, personal finance manager.
