The List

What is The List?
In short, it's a running tally of things that we think are cool, or sometimes not so cool. Basically, it is a way for us to act like self-absorbed hipsters who need to constantly pass judgement on their surroundings in order to feel significant in an increasingly prosaic world. Or something like that. For the most part, browsing this list will give you a pretty good idea of what we are like outside the web design and development spectrum.
  • Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago 2-18-08

    Just listen to it. [NA]
  • Juno 12-5-07

Ellen Page's delivery is golden. [ZG]
  • Typography in Into The Wild 11-17-07

A pretty good movie based on an excellent book (read. it. now.). Unfortunately the typography was painfully bad. I can't really explain it. But once you see it, you'll know what I mean. [NA]
  • Michael Clayton 10-29-07

Movies like this have a tendency to be overly convoluted with some master manipulator type driving the plot towards its inevitable twist. Michael Clayton doesn't fall into this trap. The characters are believable and the story builds in a very deliberate way. Nothing is revealed that makes you feel cheated. And the final scene is satisfying as hell. [NA]
  • Dane Cook on Baseball 10-9-07

One good thing about the Yankees being out of the post-season after the first round: I won't have to watch another MLB commercial on FOX or TBS featuring Dane Cook. No more stupid facial expressions, no more over-dramatizations, no more excessive en-nun-ci-ation. None of it. How 'bout we stick to the baseball huh? We get it, Dane Cook thinks it's amazing that there's only one AWCT-TOHHBER! Enough. [NA]
  • The Original Scroll 9-27-07

Jack Kerouac's original version of On The Road. 125,000 words, written over a course of three weeks, on a 120-foot typewriter scroll. No paragraphs. This is how you should read On The Road. Plus, it is much better with the real character names (I always found the pseudonyms lame. Carlo Marx? Ehhh.). Warning: Once you start reading, you may not know how to stop. [NA]
  • Maxed Out 9-10-07

Are we anywhere near financial sustainability? Not even close. From individual citizens, to the Federal Government, we fail to grasp the concept that you can't buy things if you don't have the money. Our abuse of credit has created an insane mountain of debt — and there are plenty of predators there to take advantage. Watch this film for an eye-opener. [NA]
  • The Assault On Reason 8-2-07

Al Gore's direct, insightful, and poignant commentary on the state of American Government. Definitely worth reading. [NA]
  • Transformers 7-8-07

The movie - Sooo good. [ZG]
  • Fla-Vor-Ice 6-13-07

Sure, I may be 23, but I'll never out grow my love of flavored frozen water! [ZG]
  • The Sopranos Finale 6-11-07

The lives of the Sopranos go on, we're just no longer allowed to watch. No melodramatic denumont, no closure, no cliche, just black. David Chase ended the show exactly how he created it, by challenging the audience and throwing conventional storytelling mechanisms back in our face. This ending allows for everyone's ending to come true. Best show ever. [NA]
  • Wallstrip 6-6-07

    [ZG]
  • LOST Season Finale 5-24-07

Excellent pacing, excellent acting, and a great ending. My thought? It wasn't a flash-forward, it was a flash-sideways — a parallel branch of time. Think about it. [NA]
  • Heroes - Season Finale 5-22-07

    Best show on television. [ZG]
  • Kurt Vonnegut 4-12-07

    Appreciate this man. [NA]
  • Planet Earth 4-2-07

While I'm sure this is amazing in HD, unfortunately I don't have such a fancy TV. But even without the HD, the photography looks amazing. Definitely check this out, especially if you are into nature documentaries. [NA]
  • Before the Music Dies 3-31-07

Amazing documentary about the record industry. [ZG]
  • Zach Galifianakis 3-29-07

Live at the Purple Onion [DVD] [ZG]
  • Love Is a Mixtape 3-29-07

Very depressing, but such a good read for anyone that loves music. [ZG]
  • MTV's new site 3-23-07

Poor video quality and still super buggy. [ZG]
  • Delta Airlines 3-22-07

My brother flew Delta to Europe and they proceeded to screw up every possible aspect of the trip — without any attempt to take responsibility and fix the situation. From overbooked flights, to bumped standbys, to lost luggage. Full-scale incompetence all around. And people wonder why airlines are doing so poorly. Hint: It's not the fuel costs/ticket prices. [NA]
  • St. Patty's day in Chicago 3-19-07

Good people, good drinks, good food, great city. [ZG]
  • Hang overs 3-19-07

Drinking for 12+ hours = world of hurt in the A.M. [ZG]
  • Brand New 3-16-07

Live @ Town Ballroom, Buffalo [ZG]
  • March Madness On-Demand 3-15-07

CBS allows you to view all of their NCAA Tournament broadcasts live on-line. They even have a "Boss Button" to turn the video into a spreadsheet. [NA]
  • The Merlin Show 3-12-07

A Merlin Mann (43 folders) podcast. [ZG]
  • NCAA Selection Committee 3-12-07

SU goes 10-6 in the toughest conference in college basketball and doesn't make the NCAA tournament. Wrap your head around that. [NA]
  • Hit the Lights 3-11-07

Live @ the Club at Water St. [ZG]
  • Heroes 2-27-07

    Best show on television. [ZG]
  • Andrew McMahon 2-23-07

Frontman for such bands as Something Corporate and Jack's Mannequin, Andrew is hands down, one of my favorite live performers. [ZG]
  • Head Automatica 2-23-07

As much as I love Daryl Palumbo and am happy that he's finally getting paid, I can't help but miss Glassjaw. And while HA's first album was amazing (mostly because of Producer Dan the Automator) Head Automatica just seems so contrived. [ZG]
  • Camera Phones 2-23-07

Good for car accidents, not good for live shows. [ZG]
  • Spring Training 2-21-07

The first spring training game is on Mar. 1st, and this is good news. [NA]
  • Snow Storms 2-21-07

    Shoveling is not fun. [NA]
  • The Arcade Fire - Neon Bible 2-21-07

The new Arcade Fire record is out, proving you can't stop Canada. [NA]
